Saturday mornings were made for family breakfast. In our house, waffles have become one of the favorites that we look forward to week after week. What makes these the “world’s best” is the years of testing and tasting we’ve spent in search of the perfect golden crisp exterior and fluffy sponge cake center. We’ve added a hint of sweetness with a vanilla infusion, and a hint of sea salt to enhance the flavor of our favorite toppings. If you can imagine the perfect waffle, this recipe is how it’s made!
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 3 eggs, separated
- 1 Tbs sugar
- 1/4 c. butter, melted and cooled
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
How to Make It
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine egg yolks and sugar. Beat until light. Slowly whisk in melted butter, milk, and vanilla until evenly incorporated.
Add flour mixture, and beat until large clumps disappear.
Whip egg whites until stiff and gently fold into batter.
Cook batter using a greased or buttered waffle iron until golden. Serve with maple syrup, fresh or preserved fruit, candied nuts, and/or whipped cream. Enjoy!
Tip: Use any remaining batter to make extra waffles to freeze for later. Just a quick minute in the toaster to reheat them for a fast and easy breakfast.
